Windows are a response to light and climbing, not to expensive fertilizer.
Fenestration keeps a large leaf from shredding in forest rain and lets light reach lower stories. Indoors, the same cues are strong light plus a vertical path.
Hanging plants fenestrate less because they never get the maturity signal. Tie the stem, add light, wait a few leaves — do not keep chopping.
A leaf that has already hardened will not add windows. Only new leaves report current conditions.
